Today, my uncle Dr. Rishat Abbas gave speech at a side event hosted by U.S State Department during 74th U.N general assembly in New York. While listening to his speech, I remembered mom again. She always says ” He is the most humble and genuine one among the four kids…” Indeed, to us, he is our favorite uncle too.
His speech was wonderful. He eloquently expressed our desperation for answers, as well as sorrows of our people back home.
There was another important guest at the event today, Zumrat Dawut, a camp survivor. I applaud her bravery for testifying. After listening to what she has been through, it tore me apart from inside. Don’t take my word for it, watch it from the video below.
Now let’s just sink that in for a minute… Think about over one million Uyghur woman went through or still going thru what she went through. My mom could be one of them… I can’t think through the rest… my brain is stopped…
My dearests, let’s not be despair. We have to be strong for them… I have to be strong for my mom…
“When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won…” Mahatma Gandhi
Hope is a beautiful thing… 🌹
